Yesterday's Wagons: Today's Crossovers
When I was a Kid, we called crossovers station wagons, and my family had one...a big old ugly brown station wagon with faux wood paneling down both sides and a third row seat that faced backward. This gave you a great view of where you'd been, but no idea where you were going. It also made it easy to make faces at any driver unfortunate enough to be stuck behind us. This wagon had an AM/FM radio with an 8-track player. As for safety features, we had seat belts, unused and stuffed down beneath the seats. The most important safety feature was that the middle and third row seats were out of arms reach from Dad in the driver's seat.
Nostalgia aside, today's crossovers are light years away from that old Buick wagon my parents used to shuttle us around.
